Term 4, Weeks 4 and 5

Term 4, Weeks 4 and 5

Fun in the Garden

We had fun in the garden outside Room 14, digging holes and filling them with water to make mud. During our hut day we watched some video's on a YouTube channel called Primitive Technology where a man uses mud, sticks and stones to make incredible things. We copied his techniques and made a bug house which had a front door, a back door, and even a roof! We filled it with grass so that the bugs would have food to eat.

Chase and Kobe admiring a creation in the Construction Corner.

From Bug Hunters to...

A few of us noticed some bugs crawling around in our tub of potatoes, so Miss Harris reminded us that we had magnifying glasses inside. We studied the bugs through the magnifying glasses to see what they were doing.

The Bug House continues...

Wombat Stew

We read the book Wombat Stew as a class and then Miss Harris set some things out for us to play with alongside the book. What can we come up with?

Playing Shops

Some of the girls in Room 14 thought back to our Jubilee last term and all of the food vans that were on the junior courts selling food. The girls thought they would create their own food stalls.

What have we here?

Cleaning up!

It's fun to get messy and muddy, but it's important to tidy up when we are done. We talking about the things we would need in order to tidy up and Ardrion quickly said that we would need sponges, buckets, soap, and water. Miss Harris found everything that Ardrion had suggested, and we set to work cleaning up the side of the classroom. It was done really quickly because a lot of us worked together.

Discovery Time

With Athletics Day just around the corner, we headed out onto the field to have a practice for Athletics Day. Miss Harris practiced running races with us.

Improving our Shops

The girls got together with Miss Harris and we thought about ways we could make our shops better; how could we tell customers how much things were going to cost, and how could we advertise what we had for sale? The girls decided that they should make some signs for their shops.

Learning Through Play

Ardrion, Lola, Layla, Ariana, and Ronan set up a post office. They are using their communication and literacy skills to work together in their play.

Shayan and Shravanth took turns setting up the plastic pins and knocking them down. This is great for developing their fine and gross motor skills.

These girls carefully ground up some chalk and used it as makeup, and created their own beauty salon.

Loose Parts Robot

Make over, anyone?

Sana is creating a makeup pallet (eyeshadow, I think!) using chalk and a makeup brush.

Week 2

How many petals?

We worked hard to add petals to our flowers. Miss Harris rolled her 12 sided dice and we had to count the same number of plastic gems to add to complete our flower.

Art using symmetry.

Daniel created a dragon on a piece of paper by folding a piece of paper in half and drawing half of the dragon along one side of the fold. He then carefully cut out the half he had drawn, and opened it up to show both sides. He added details like a nose and eyes, and carefully coloured it in.

Everyone in Room 14 was super impressed with Daniel's dragon and what he did to create it, and we asked for his help to make our own.

Nicholas was also very proud of his dragon!

Loose Parts

Sana was very proud of her loose parts creations!

Construction

Chase was proud of his Beyblade Castle; he spent ages building it!

What comes before and after?

We played a game of Swat-a-Fly where we had to work quickly to find which number came before and after these numbers up to 10.

Discovery Time

Miss An-Ya took everyone outside to make huts under the trees and play on the playground.

Miss Harris brought out all of her board games and card games for us to play.

Mrs Mackay helped us to make cards for people we love.

Learning Through Play

These are some of the creations that were snapped on Miss Harris' phone by members of Room 14.

Worm Wees for Sale!

We are just beginning to get some worm wees from our worms ready to sell! You can purchase 2L for $5 or 1L for $3. All funds will be going towards setting up larger worm farms for the whole

Loose Parts

Ariana with her creation at the Loose Parts table.

Card Tower

Daniel worked hard and carefully to create this card tower. Creating things like card towers are great for developing concentration and fine motor skills.

Playdough

We love playing with Playdough!

Buddy Class

We played Human Chain with our buddy class.

Fire Engine!

The fire alarms went off, and some firemen came to school in their firetruck!

We stopped on the way back to class with Room 19 to have a look at the fire engine and say hello to the firemen.
