Six broken rulers, maths equipment 'pinged' all around the room, loads of laughter...who knew levers could be so much fun! 

While I am sure you have all heard about levers, have you heard about our 'Daily Maths' guest teacher? Here is teacher Jo Jo in action today.

Congratulations to Fiona for receiving a certificate at assembly today for displaying the value Respect. Next week we will be focusing on Perseverance; you could spend a moment discussing what you think this means, and why it is important with your child.

Today we used the heads of screws and bolts to decorate the screws we drew. Mrs Marsh forgot to put sponges in the paint trays to lessen the amount of paint that went on the heads...oops! They are still effective, and the finished products will be on display by mid next week.

                                Bubbles!

On Thursday we met with our Buddy class. We went to the hall and Mrs Lee played different types of classical music while we observed bubbles...here are our poems about this experience.

Bubbles are like a wind current floating on the river, floating like a lovely flower.
It will never end. Hibiscus

When bubbles get close to the light they pop.
The bubbles listen to the piano and float to the music of the violin.

Week One Term Two

This week we dived into our school wide Inquiry about Function. In Room 14 we have decided that the word function means 'what something does'.  To begin the Inquiry, we are learning all about simple machines. This week we have been noticing screws, and they are EVERYWHERE! On the playground, on the tables, on the bookshelves, on the whiteboard, inside the cupboards - literally everywhere!

Mrs Marsh has sneaked Mr Marsh's electric drill into school, and we were allowed to have a go at drilling holes into a piece of wood. The drill was heavy and quite loud - but it was fun to use!

Next week week we are going to use screw drivers to take apart an old keyboard and an old DVD player.

We have also been learning about comparative language such as tall, taller, and tallest. In groups of three, we sorted ourselves into tall, taller, and tallest - the rest of the photos are in the class for you to come and have a look at 👍

Basil Seed Slime, Toothed, and Hand Shaped Leaves

It's only Wednesday, but already the children want to tell you what we have been doing in R14.

Yesterday we experimented with the Basil seed slime that was made by one of our mums. Today we went on a leaf hunt for toothed leaves, and hand shaped leaves. Here are some pictures of the fun we have been having!

On Wednesday we went on a leaf hunt. I got a wet hand shaped leaf on the hill. Mrs Marsh stuck them on the window so we can feel them. I feel shy! (R.L)

In room 14 we went to a leaf hunt. All the people in room 14 found a lot of leaves in the school, and we went on the field. (J.G.M)

Today R14 went on a leaf hunt and we found all kinds of leaves. I found an oval yellow leaf. (N.S)

Yesterday on Tuesday we played with gooey slime. It was fun! I loved it! I put it in the awesome bowl. (F.F)

Today we had a leaf hunt. I found a spiky leaf. Then we took the leaves back to the classroom. I glued a leaf into my reading book. (A.H)

Today we went hunting to look for leaves so we can look at toothed leaves and normal leaves. Yesterday we looked at the slime. It was cold for me. (C.A)

Last week Room 14 engaged in a 'Hear, Think, Wonder' thinking routine. First of all, we listened to a youtube clip, and talked about what we could hear. Then we had a think in our heads about what it might be, and then we shared our 'wonder' questions...

I am sure by now you have heard all about our Buddy Class. We are very lucky to have Room 1 to support us with our spelling, AND to inspire us over and over again! This week they shared their 'Hear/Think/Wonder' writing, and we want to do the same! Here are some photos of R14 and R1 a few weeks ago on crazy hat day.

We only have two weeks to go and Term 1 will be over!
