Week 11

Painting, Painting, Painting

We painted our hand-prints with Christine's help. Painting our non-dominant hand was really tricky but we did our best! Whaea Karen helped us to cut out our hands and glue them onto coloured paper and on shared learning day we practiced skip counting in 5's by counting the number of fingers in our classroom. There are 240 fingers in Room 14!

Adding to 10 Snap

Some of us are learning to add to 10 quickly. We worked with Miss Harris to figure out all of the different ways to make 10 by adding two numbers together. We played snap with a friend but could only 'snap' the cards when there were two cards that added to 10.

Reading Buddies

Room 14 have some new buddies who love to be read to!

Daniel and Kate loved reading to their buddies.

Buddy Class Art

We have been looking at the book "The Red Beast" with our buddy class, Room 4.

The Red Beast teaches us that we all have a red beast living inside us which wakes up when we feel angry. The book also has fantastic strategies which we can use to calm our red beast.

For more information please feel free to watch the clip below, showing the authors reading their book.

Because each of us look so different, we figured our Red Beasts would look different too. Buddy class joined us in Room 14 on Monday to sketch a picture of what our red beasts look like when they are asleep. Stay tuned next term for the completed artwork!

Room 14 News

This week for news Ronan brought in a very cool toy that flies when you pull a string. We really wanted to see how it worked so we went down to the hall after lunch on Tuesday to check it out.

Watching it fly!

We followed up Ronan's flight demonstration with a quick game of Pac Man tag.

Cafe 14

This week we got a special surprise when we came to school to see Cafe 14 set up in our classroom! We absolutely love playing in our classroom cafe. We have written menus and taken our classmates orders, and use our play money to pay for our purchases. Our cafe even got "robbed", so we needed to hire some students as security guards.

Shared Learning Day

Thank you so much to the whanau that braved the weather to join us for shared learning day. It was a chaotic day due to the weather and lack of power, but we made it through and had the biggest class in the whole school!

Gian loved showing his mum around our classroom.

Inside Play on Wet Days

On wet days Room 14 stay inside and get to play with toys around the classroom. The boys in Room 14 love to connect these blocks to make their own Beyblades which they spin on the tables and use to battle one another.

Connecting the pieces is helping to make our fingers strong and helps us with our writing.

Hannah and Sarah having fun on the mat and doing some dancing.

Red Beast Writing

We have been preparing some writing to go with the Red Beast art we are making with our buddy class. On Thursday we worked with Miss An-Ya to write down the physical characteristics of our Red Beast.

Farewell, Mrs Seerup!

Mrs Seerup has been the ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) teacher at Target Road School for over 20 years and had her last day at Target Road School on Thursday. We are extremely sad to see her go.

Eric, Gian, Sarah and Hannah attend ESOL classes a few times a week. Mrs Seerup has helped them so much with their learning in so many different ways and they will miss her a lot. We worked together on Tuesday to do some writing for Mrs Seerup.

I like ESOL because Mrs Seerup helps me to learn English. Thank you Mrs Seerup.
From Sarah Park

I like ESOL because it is fun. I like to play spill the food.

Dear Mrs Seerup,

Thank you for teaching me lots of things. I can’t choose one way that you have helped me because there are too many.

Jump Jam

We said goodbye to the term by doing Jump Jam in the hall with the rest of our school on Friday morning. As we were lining up to leave Chase showed us that he could do the splits! Whoa!

Popcorn and a movie!

We enjoyed a movie and some popcorn with Rooms 17 and 18 on our last day of Term.

Thank you!

Thank you all for a great Term 1. I cannot wait to spring back into learning in Term 2.
Please do your best to have a safe and fun-filled holiday!
