We are learning to solve maths problems using different strategies.
Caniel, Kate, Gian, Eric and Liam V worked with Miss Harris this week to talk about different ways to solve word problems. We talked about how we could solve problems by drawing a picture, counting on materials like our fingers or counters, counting on from the biggest number, skip counting, and using a number line.
We wrote down a word problem and chose two strategies which we could use to solve the problem.
Playing!
Liam F loves playing in our Room 14 Cafe.
We were inspired by last weeks Discovery Time to make our own huts under the tables! We had heaps of fun.
Loom bands are still a big hit in Room 14! They help our fingers to get stronger, and we make beautiful things for our friends!
If you have any loom bands collecting dust at home we would greatly appreciate any donations.
Sarah and Hannah love playing card games. They can usually be spotted playing with the normal playing cards or with the UNO cards.
Chugging along
Mrs Mackay from Room 13 was so kind and let us borrow their wooden blocks. We made a huge long train track that went almost down to Room 9! We counted the number of blocks we used, but we stopped counting when we got to over 200 blocks!
Finding Inclined Planes
We watched a few videos to learn about Inclined planes. We learnt that an inclined plane has a flat surface and is on an angle.
We went hunting around the school for some inclined planes and took some pictures of all of the inclined planes we could find.
When we had finished taking pictures of inclined planes on the playgrounds, we went to the field for a roll around on the grass.
After a few minutes of some very tricky rolling, we ran to the top of the hill at the back of the field and got to roll down the hill to our hearts content. The hill is an inclined plane and made it way easier for us to roll!
Art, art, art!
This week we set up a table outside which we could use to do some art with crayons and pastels.
Ardrion and Johannes turned their artwork into planes to copy the plane that Daniel had brought in from home.
More fun with FUNction.
We used flat boards from our classroom and some toy cars to build an inclined plane. We had to try to get our toy cars to zoom down the inclined plane and into the middle of a chalk circle on the carpet.
Ronan and Daniel thought of using a big book as an inclined plane by leaning it up against a chair!
We all lined up with our inclined planes and our cars to see whose car would go the furthest and why. We observed that the cars might be going further when released from the whiteboard as it has a very smooth surface, but the corrugated plastic has little ridges.
We also noticed that the biggest car always went the furthest. We think this might be because it is heavier than the other cars.
Funny Faces
Daniel made us all laugh this week by putting googly eyes on his chin and doing a funny play for us!
He told us that smiling like that is very tricky because you have to turn your mouth down towards your chin instead of how you would normally smile.
We just can't stop playing!
Hannah and Sarah created a bed for our reading buddies and made sure they were all tucked in for the night.
Happy Mothers Day!
We worked hard this week to produce some artwork in the form of a magnet for your fridge, and a simile poem describing mum. We hope you love them and have had a great mothers day!
Discovery Time
This week for Discovery Time, Room 12 held a Beyblade tournament. The competition was fierce and everyone had so much fun!
Mrs Mackay brought her fabric out again in Room 13 and we had another wedding and some more hut building!
And in Room 14 Miss Harris put out some crayons, chalk and black dye for us to do some artwork.

Thank you!:-)
