Week 5 and 6

Week 5

Problem of the Week

Every week in Room 14 we work on a maths word problem. We have a lot of ways to figure out the answer.

In Week 5 our maths problem was about marbles, so Izzy, Kate, and Renata counted these marbles to try and figure out the answer.

Singing!

We spent an afternoon stretching our vocal chords and doing some singing, first using a ukulele, and then singing some songs from YouTube that we have glued into our books last term. This one is particularly yucky! (And funny, of course!)

You can listen to the whole song here:

 AAAH! HELP!

This week Liam V came into class wearing a terrifying mask!

Making the Most of the Sun

We made the most of the beautiful sun by sitting outside to eat our lunch.

Paper Scissors Rock

We had a few minutes to spare so went out for a quick game. We love playing Paper Scissors Rock! The winner is the team who gets all the way to the other teams netball hoop.

Pulleys!

Kate and Jasmine used a tree branch and a skipping rope to fashion a pulley during lunch time!

Boxes Galore!

We absolutely love playing with boxes and creating things. Thank you for the boxes that have been donated to us.

Creating with Blocks

Kobe was proud of the house he had made out of blocks and was eager to explain to me how it worked. Watch to see what happens!

Gian and Kobe worked together to create a new house after this video was taken.

Fun with Ropes and Slime!

A group of students worked outside to practice their skills playing with skipping ropes, with the help of Christine.

Layla figured out how to make huge bubbles out of the slime!

Chase made this Beyblade house to keep his Beyblades in.

Eli and Gian used a skipping rope on the playground to make a pulley!

Buddy Class

We had a great time this week resting our ring words and then having a dance party in Room 4! Room 4 were quite shocked to realise that Miss Harris knows how to do the floss!

Discovery Time

For Discovery Time in Week 5 Miss Harris put out lots of loose parts for us to play with. The creations were incredible!

Miss An-Ya did some construction in Room 12, and in Room 13 Mrs Mackay set out some craft supplies and her letterbox to post letters!

Games, Games, Games!

Room 14 wowed Miss Harris with their hard work and excellent listening in Week 5, and were rewarded with an afternoon of games!

We played Rob the Nest where the winning team needs to get 10 bean bags in their hoop. Only one person can run at a time and you can only take one bean bag at a time! It's lots of fun!

Human Chain is another great game! We have to link hands and stretch out. the person at the end of the line runs to the front, and the first team to make their way from one end of the court to touch Miss Harris' hand at the other end is the winner!

We played another game of paper scissors rock; just can't get enough of that game!

Box Man

Johannes snuck his head through the hole in this banana box! We all had a bit of a giggle.

Week 6

Sharing our Writing

We were all excited about what we had done for writing, so sat around in a circle to share with our friends.

Dismantling things!

The St Johns opportunity shop in Wairau Park kindly gave us some broken electronics this week that we spent some time pulling apart with Ms McKinlay. We used screwdrivers to get the screws out and had a look at what was inside. Johannes is hooked!

Toby and Johannes were keen to show Miss Harris this circuit board when she returned to work after being away sick for a few days.

If you have any broken electronics we could pull apart please feel free to drop them into the school.

Jump Jam!

We love going down to the hall for Jump Jam on a Friday morning to shake our tail feathers!

Discovery Time

This week for Discovery time Miss An-Ya's daughter joined us on the playground and playing with basketballs on the courts, Mrs Mackay brought her letterbox out again along with a marble run, and Miss Harris had some construction and GoNoodle happening in Room 14.

Buddy Class

This week for Buddy Class we played a game of Human Chain.

Toast!

We used a toaster to learn more about simple machines. A toaster has a lever (or as someone called it a "toast putter downer"), and is held together using screws.

We talked about all of the steps it takes to make toast, and then we cut our toast in halves and then into quarters. We had two quarters (or one half) of a piece of toast each, and got to put honey or jam on our toast by ourselves.
