Week 9
The Book Fair
We spent some time with our Room 4 Buddies to look through the Library which had been set up so beautifully for the book fair. We found so many things that we wished we could have; it was hard to only choose three!
Cups
The students in Room 14 have been having fun stacking plastic cups in lots of different ways.
Here is Ariana and Renata's Cup Castle.
Reading Time
Some of the students in Room 14 exploring our classroom and reading their favourite books during reading time.
Room 14 News
Daniels news in Week 9 included Simple Machines! We were all excited to have a go at turning the cogs around and seeing how many different ways we could organise the cogs.
The Book Parade
We worked hard in Week 9 on reading and writing; any and everything book related! We loved dressing up for the book parade and seeing our friends in other classes dressed up, too!
Certificates
Well done to Liam Farrington and Chase for working hard to earn their certificates in Week 9.
A Game from Korea!
Miss Harris brought in a game from home that is a traditional Korean game called Yutnori. Sarah and Hannah were excited to play it together and remind Miss Harris of the rules!
Week 10
More Cups!
Eli was proud of his cup tower that was almost as tall as he is!
Gian was also proud of his cup tower in Week 10.
Zen Den Mindfullness
We have been doing a bit of Zen Den (on YouTube) to help us to relax and think better about our learning. We are loving it!
Target Road School Video
Our school video was filmed in Week 10 and we were all excited to see the Drone flying above our school!
More Cup Towers!
Ronan and Eli were proud of this tower that they worked on together.
Our Simple Machines Inquiry
This term while learning about simple machines we learnt about the screw which is an inclined plane (another type of simple machine) which is wrapped around a cylander. Sometimes a screw also has a wedge at the end. A wedge is something that pushes things apart, just like the end of an axe.
We used our knowledge of simple machines to draw pictures in our Inquiry books of things we might want to make. Liam V had the idea of making a "safe" for us to play with so away we went!
Sanding
Miss Harris used some power tools at home to cut the wood to the right lengths, and then we got to use sandpaper to smooth the edges. For some of us, it was our first time ever touching sandpaper and we were very excited to get to use it!
Assembling the Safe
Once all the sides had been sanded, we took turns to screw the sides together. Miss Harris used a power drill at home to pre-drill the holes for us and had written numbers on the sides to match the holes up. We had to figure out how the sides matched before we could screw them together.
Painting
After sanding and assembling our safe, we took it outside to paint it. We thought that a safe should be grey or black, and settled on painting it grey.
Room 14 Theatre
While we were painting our safe, Liam Farrington had the great idea to turn our classroom into a movie theatre!
The students in Room 14 were quick to grab a chair while others put on a "movie" using our Reading Buddy Teddy Bears.
STOMP!
We were extremely lucky to have STOMP come and teach us some awesome dance moves in Week 10 as a free trial. It was heaps of fun, and we hope they will come back to teach us even more dances in the future.
Shared Lunch
Wow! Look at all that food!
We had a great shared lunch and were all very sensible with the amount of food we ate. Some of us even enjoyed trying something new in the form of stewed rhubarb that Lola and her mum kindly gifted to us and Miss Harris stewed up and served with some custard.
Farewell, Hannah!
Friday in Week 10 was Hannah's last day with us before moving down to Hamilton with her family.
We miss you already, Hannah!
Enjoying the last day of Term 2
We wrapped up the term with some colouring and board games while Miss Harris and Christine Rose worked hard to tidy the classroom.
Isaac was thinking about the garden he had worked hard to look after all term, and decided that we needed a sign for the garden so that people wouldn't help themselves over the break. We laminated it and cellotaped it to a stick before putting it into the garden.
Well done Isaac for having a brilliant idea and making it happen!
Thanks for coming to look at our blog!
