Week 1
New Term, New Daily Maths Book!
We spent the first day of Term 3 decorating the front covers of our new Daily Maths books with our new buddies!
What do we have here?
We loved exploring the new things in our classroom!
We really love letting our imaginations run wild when we use the craft table.

Mark, Gian, Eric and Kobe were keen to get stuck into the construction corner again.
Kate and Jasmine, playing with their craft table creations and our plastic cups.
Ryan, Ronan, Johannes and Ardrion reconnected with the help of their Pokemon books!
Lola, Layla and Renata rocked it in our Whanau Corner with our brand new baby dolls!
Miss Harris who? Lola, Layla, Izzy, Sarah, Mark and Gian playing teachers and getting their students to practice their skip counting.
Creations
Daniel made a flag.
Kobe built his favourite Pokemon, Ash Greninja.
And check out this amazing cup tower! When we see a "Work in Progress" sign we're not allowed to take the creation apart.
Daily Maths
After decorating our front pages, Miss Harris put our books together and we worked hard to complete the first two pages.
Kobe and Mark finished their Daily Maths book quickly to move on to some learning through play.
The Global World
Communication
This term we are learning all about how people communicate in different ways around the world. In Week 1 we went out into the playground to play some games that show why it is so important to communicate with other people!
Our first game involved sitting on the ground back to back with linked arms, and working together to stand up. Tricky stuff!
In our next game we had to stand behind our buddy with our hands on their shoulders and, without talking, direct them around the tennis courts while they had their eyes closed!
How else can you communicate without talking?
A little bit more play!
The Teacher Station is a hit!
100 Days at School
On Wednesday 25th of July we celebrated our 100th day of school for the year.
For maths we worked very hard and showed a lot of resilience to roll a dice all the way up to 100!
100th day fitness involved counting how many times we could hop on one foot in 100 seconds, and then how many jumping jacks (or star jumps) we could do in 100 seconds.
100 Days of School Art
We all worked extremely hard and listened closely to instructions to complete self portraits for our 100 Days of School art.
First we sketched a draft of our portrait on newsprint paper before transferring our draft onto good paper and going over the top of our pencil with vivid.
After finishing our vivid outlines, we coloured our portraits with oil pastels and then painted the background using dye.
Party Games
No party would be complete without party games! This game was great for increasing our fine motor skills... and it was so much fun! We had to use a pair of wooden chopsticks to transfer as many mini marshmallows or skittles from one bowl to another as we could, and we were allowed to eat the number that we transferred! If we use chop sticks a lot at home we had to transfer the skittles. We only had 30 seconds so we had to work fast.
Chase was much better with chopsticks than he let on!
Learning Through Play
Buddy Class
We love it when our Buddy Class come to visit! They got to explore our classroom a little bit and play with the things we have set out.
Discovery Time
This week we got to make the most of the fine weather and play outside on the playground.
Mrs Mackay got out her army men, and made some inclined planes for the cars using the tables!
Mrs Boxen filled in for Miss An-Ya in Room 12 and pulled out some crayons and dye for an art session.
Oh, and don't forget the playdough!
A group of girls outside decided that they wanted to play Rob the Nest so drew circles on the courts for the nests, and even went down to Mrs Rowlands and respectfully asked to borrow the beanbags!
Battling Beyblades.
Week 2
Communication
In Week 2 we were so incredibly luck to have Lola's Mum Tracy come in to teach us some sign language! We split into groups to learn a few letters at a time and practice them before coming back as a group and slowly going through the whole alphabet, one group at a time.
Crack the Code
Another way we can communicate is through secret messages! We came in one morning to find some messages on the whiteboard which we worked very hard to decode.
Happy Birthday, Daniel!
Dinosaurs + Maths = Winning!
Ryan and Johannes learned to play some new board games featuring Dinosaurs and subtraction.
