Term 3
Week 9
Construction!
We love constructing things in Room 14. The boys particularly enjoy building bug houses out of wooden boards and various other things.
Chase enjoys connecting the unifix cubes to see how long he can go!
We used Chase's unifix snake to measure ourselves. Preston measured himself and then counted to see how many cubes tall he is.
Johannes measured himself with his hands stretched up.
The snake was even longer than Miss Harris! (Sorry about the "classroom shoes!")
We end up with a lot of different creations in Room 14! Here are some videos of Johannes, Ronan and Sammie explaining what they have made:
Visual Art
In Week 9 we worked hard on some visual art to celebrate a new way of communicating with other people; Braille!
We created some bubble art by blowing bubbles through a straw into some soapy, watery paint, before gently pressing a piece of paper onto the bubbles. It was tricky but with a bit of resilience we got some amazing bubbles! Ronan and Stanley quickly learnt not to breath in through the straw! Yuck!
After finishing our bubble background, we learnt how to write our names in Braille and stuck jewels onto our bubble background to spell out our names. We love our Braille art and would love you to pop in and have a look.
Fitness
We borrowed some hoops from Room 11 and took them out for a spin. We practiced hula hooping, and spinning them across the ground so that they come back to us like a boomerang. Some girls also used them to create a dance routine.
Week 10
Happy Birthday, Ronan!
Ronan's mum brought in this amazing cake for us to share for Ronan's birthday! It was delicious.Happy Hut Day!
We had an absolute blast making huts for our hut day before sitting in our huts to do our writing about them.
"Me and my friends are in our tent and we are having lots of fun. The end." - Ronan
"In Room 14 we made huts. I like the huts because of the colour on Renata's one." - Sienna
"I hate the huts because I can't get out." - Shravanth
"I made a hut with Lola and we had a lot of pets and they were so annoying. They were roaming around and me and Lola were trying to ge tthem and I tripped and it hurt. Then I made a hut with Miss Harris." - Layla
"Today I got to play in the awesome huts. The huts were awesome. I liked the huts. The end." - Johannes
"I made a hut with Layla. We plated vets. It was a disaster. We played dogs and cats. Miss Harris made a tent. We were reading books. I was reading a chapter book. It was about fairies." - Lola
"I made a hut today and I had fun in my hut and I went to my friends hut too." - Sana
"When I was in my hut I saw Ash Greninja." - Kobe
"I fixed huts. I took a blanket into school." - Isaac
"Today we made huts at school and lots of people brought blankets or table cloths and the huts were joined together with pegs and lots of people helped make the huts." - Ariana
"I made a stunning hut! And I ate brain fruit in it. And then it was morning tea!!! And Miss Harris put up her own tent! Well, Miss Harris shared." - Daniel
"I have a house hut." - Preston
"Today I got to play in other peoples huts." - Eric
"I liked the tent outside because it was fun to play with on Hut Day." - Izzy
"Today we built a tent and it was very fun. I did not build with my sheet but it is wrecked because we were running in it very fast. I like building other peoples huts." - Sammie
"I like Miss Harris' tent." - Baran
"I was playing catch with Ronan and Eli. It was very, very fun! I was playing with Eli, Ronan, Isaac, Sienna, Kobe and Ardrion, and then I went to the real tent. I read a book. I read a book to Baran and Izzy in the tent. It was very quiet." - Renata
"Today I made a hut. We made it with pegs and blankets. We clipped the pieces on to the string." - Eli
A Lot of Fun
Liam had fun drawing on white paper with our shaped crayons.
Who can resist a game of twister? Definitely not Baran, Ardrion and Johannes!
Some members of Room 14 retrieved some hula hoops and worked a bit more on their dance routines.
We spotted some members of Room 12 working in the Sandpit on this amazing river. It even has a bridge!
Layla and Lola also worked in the sandpit making cupcakes for their bakery.
Isaac and Ronan stepping in to watch the dance show while they eat their brain food.
Sienna has joined in the Twister fun!
Sana and Preston making the most of the writing table.
Kobe and Stanley playing in the Whanau corner.
Shravanth and Shayan playing with the cars in the library corner.
"Chase, are you playing with the babies?"
"Who, me? No."
Ronan and Isaac used chalk to make their own solar system on the concrete.
The dance routine is really coming along!
Sports on the field
Mrs Morris was kind enough to lend us some tennis balls and rackets, rugby balls, soccer balls, and a funny shaped 5 prong ball. We had a great time running around and practicing our ball skills on the field but were upset when it started to rain and we had to pack up.
The Wizard of Oz
We spent the whole term reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which we all fell in love with! The movie was almost as good as the book.
The skittles game
We love playing the skittles game! We use a pair of chop sticks to transfer as many skittles or baby marshmellows from one bowl to the other in 30 seconds. And the number we move to the other bowl we get to eat!
This game is great for concentration and fine motor control.
Even Miss Harris and Whaea Karen had a turn!
